Te Tūāpapa Kura Kāinga, Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has received the decision on the Rotorua Contracted Emergency Housing consents.

HUD acknowledges the decision and the contribution of everyone who participated and thanks everyone involved - including the Rotorua Lakes Council, iwi, submitters from the local community and the Commissioners who carefully considered all the evidence in arriving at their decision.

HUD is working through the detail of the decision. We are committed to working with all the parties who recently signed the Rotorua Housing Accord.

Emergency housing is not a situation anyone wants but it remains a necessary option to provide security for whānau and individuals while the pipeline of supply is increased in the Rotorua region.

The Accord provides a strong framework to work through the implications of the consent decision and ensure better and more sustainable housing and social outcomes for the people of Rotorua.
