A ‘one size fits all’ will not work and we need to take a deliberate place-based approach to our policy, working with councils, iwi and others based in the community to develop and implement joined up local solutions.
HUD has been trialling the new approach for assessing and responding to housing and urban development needs in Hastings. Over time, we will take the same approach in other priority cities and regions with significant housing and urban development challenges.
HUD is presently exploring other high-needs areas like Rotorua and are expected to make an announcement around the next place-based assessment shortly.
