The Rangatahi Supported Accommodation Service seeks to meet the needs of rangatahi experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness with higher and/or more complex needs.

About the Rangatahi Supported Accommodation Service

Rangatahi with high and/or complex needs often require intensive longer-term support before they can exit homelessness. There are currently limited housing solutions available for these rangatahi which often do not meet their needs. The new Rangatahi Supported Accommodation Service will focus on filling this gap.

The Rangatahi Supported Accommodation Service supports youth to exit homelessness through providing a safe space and holistic wellbeing support that empowers them to develop confidence and autonomy so that they can reach their full potential and aspirations.

Providers

Visionwest has been contracted to set up the first site in Auckland which is expected to be operational by the end of 2023. It will deliver five places and will operate for approximately two and a half years. Negotiations with potential providers in other areas are also in progress and we'll be updating this page with provider information as they are confirmed.

Visionwest Waka Whakakitenga | Building Hope Together (Auckland)

Visionwest focuses on journeying alongside whānau through whatever challenges they may be facing and bringing them to a place of transformation. Guided by a kaupapa Māori framework called “Pou Whakakitenga,” their services aim to alleviate poverty, isolation, homelessness, and unemployment. Established in 1982, as a drop-in centre in a repurposed railway station, the Trust has grown into a comprehensive support network providing wraparound support to approximately 60,000 whānau every year.

Visionwest believes every person has the right to a safe and dry home, and that the stability afforded by such a home provides the foundation for a stable and positive society. Visionwest aims proactively address the issue of housing for rangatahi through it's upcoming supported accommodation programme named 'Whare Hiwa' (The home of hope and dreams). Whare Hiwa will focus on high needs wāhine Māori with a kaupapa Māori programme design, meaning they will come into an environment where they can discover who they are and where they would like to go in the future.
